My name is Jen and I'm a passionate mum who loves to save money, reduce toxins in the home, and I love to recycle.  Recently I was asked to appear on Today Tonight (current affairs program in Australia) to share my story.  With 73K views on their facebook video, it is one of their most popular stories of the year!

Here are some tried and tested recipes we use in our home and were featured in the story - enjoy!

 

All Purpose Cleaning Spray


What you will need:

  • 300ml glass/aluminium spray bottle
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate soda or borax
  • 10 drops of On Guard - Protective Blend

Mix ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake and apply. Great for wiping down kitchen bench tops, dining table.
Cost: $0.80 for oils. $2 for spray bottle (re-use over and over again).


Window Cleaner


What you will need:

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 7 drops of Lime essential oil
  • 300ml glass/aluminum spray bottle

Mix ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake and apply. Wipe clean.
Cost: $0.35 for oils. $2 for spray bottle (re-use over and over again).

 

Kitchen & Bathroom Cleaner

 

What you will need:

Add ingredients to spray bottle. Shake well before spraying on surfaces. Leave on for half an hour before rinsing.
Cost: $0.54 for oils. $2 for spray bottle (re-use over and over again).


Furniture Polish

 

What you will need:

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 10 drops of Wild Orange essential oil
  • 300ml. glass/aluminium spray bottle or 100 ml spritzer bottle.

Mix ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake and apply. Wipe clean.
Cost: $0.60 for oils. $2 for spray bottle

Dishwasher Tablets

 

What you will need:

  • 125g rock salt
  • 500g washing soda (sodium carbonate)
  • 250g citric acid
  • 125g borax
  • 100ml white distilled vinegar
  • 40 drops of Lemon essential oil

Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.  Gradually stir in the vinegar (may foam a little).  Once well combined, press firmly into either a silicone mould or ice cube tray.  Leave in a warm place to dry for a few hours and you're good to go.


Washing powder

 

Ingredients

Mix washing soda, borax, and grated castile soap together.
Add essential oil, mixing to combine.
Use ¼ cup per load. Store in an airtight container.



Handwash

Ingredients
2 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon Fractionated Coconut Oil
10 drops Peppermint essential oil and five drops of Tea Tree essential oil
Water
 

Pour castile soap and Fractionated Coconut Oil into bottle.
Add essential oils.
Slowly add water into bottle making sure to leave room for the foaming pump.
Add lid, shake, and you are good to go!
